i was born in el salvador (1974) and immigrated to the united states during the 1980's settling in los angeles, california. attended california state university northridge, obtaining a bachelor of arts with an emphasis on interior design. upon graduation, i applied my skills to photography and have since developed a freelance career photographing assignments and projects in latin america, the middle east, the united states and europe. my focus on under-reported issues and long-term projects, has included reportage coverage of post-conflict unrest in my native country of el salvador.
my work covering iraq, haiti, mexico, el salvador and the united states has been exhibited and published internationally. i believe that the goal of a documentary photographer, is to create images that visually translate the reality one witnesses - without manipulating events.
i am based between san francisco, california and san salvador, el salvador where i work as a freelance photojournalist, while also pursuing personal documentary projects.
