AL QAYYARAH’S DARK CLOUDS

The oil wells of the town of Al-Qayyarah were set on fire by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) fighters in order to obstruct the vision of the US led coalition forces in the fight to recover the city of Mosul in Northern Iraq, they continue to burn and releasing a toxic thick black cloud over the town causing contamination as well as a health risk to the residents, undoubtedly an environmental disaster. This anticipated battle to expel ISIS from the third most important city in Iraq. Iraqi fire crews and workers continue to fight the flames as the petrol burns causing major health issues and environmental damage to the area. The environmental impact on the city as well as the rest of the country is immense, yet not much has been done from the international community to control the fires and shit the burning oil fields. The residents are constantly breathing the toxic fumes causing major respiratory problems, contaminating the water and food, the human toll due to diseases caused by the inhalation of the petrol is yet to be felt. Meanwhile the people continue to live under the thick clouds.
